Role of excitons in double Raman resonances in GaAs quantum wells

1996

Raman scattering by longitudinal-optical phonons has been measured in GaAs-AlAs multiple quantum wells at high magnetic fields. Doubly resonant scattering processes are observed at photon energies corresponding to magneto-excitons with different principal quantum numbers for the incoming and outgoing channels. The existence of these initially forbidden scattering processes, their resonance energies, and their relative intensities are correctly reproduced by our theoretical description. The model takes into account the excitonic nature of the intermediate states, as well as scattering processes involving a nonzero in-plane phonon wave vector, which is required to allow inter-Landau level sca…

Double Copies of Fermions as Matter that Interacts Only Gravitationally

2016

Inspired by the recent progress in the field of scattering amplitudes, we discuss hypothetical particles which can be characterized as the double copies of fermions-in the same way gravitons can be viewed as double copies of gauge bosons. As the gravitons, these hypothetical particles interact only through gravitational interactions. We present two equivalent methods for the computation of the relevant scattering amplitudes. The hypothetical particles can be massive and nonrelativistic.

Improved description of the -scattering phenomenology at low energies in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory

2013

Abstract We present a novel analysis of the π N scattering amplitude in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory up to O ( p 3 ) within the extended-on-mass-shell renormalization scheme and including the Δ ( 1232 ) explicitly in the δ -counting. We take the hadronic phase shifts provided by partial wave analyses as basic experimental information to fix the low-energy constants. Subsequently, we study in detail the various observables and low-energy theorems related to the π N scattering amplitude. In particular, we discuss the results and chiral expansion of the phase shifts, the threshold coefficients, the Goldberger–Treiman relation, the pion–nucleon sigma term and the extrapolation on…

From loops to trees by-passing Feynman's theorem

2008

We derive a duality relation between one-loop integrals and phase-space integrals emerging from them through single cuts. The duality relation is realized by a modification of the customary +i0 prescription of the Feynman propagators. The new prescription regularizing the propagators, which we write in a Lorentz covariant form, compensates for the absence of multiple-cut contributions that appear in the Feynman Tree Theorem. The duality relation can be applied to generic one-loop quantities in any relativistic, local and unitary field theories. %It is suitable for applications to the analytical calculation of %one-loop scattering amplitudes, and to the numerical evaluation of %cross-section…

Coupled-channel meson-meson scattering in the diabatic framework

2021

We apply the diabatic framework, a QCD-based formalism for the unified study of quarkoniumlike systems in terms of heavy quark-antiquark and open-flavor meson-meson components, to the description of coupled-channel meson-meson scattering. For this purpose, we first introduce a numerical scheme to find the solutions of the diabatic Schr\"odinger equation for energies in the continuum, then we derive a general formula for calculating the meson-meson scattering amplitudes from these solutions. We thus obtain a completely nonperturbative procedure for the calculation of open-flavor meson-meson scattering cross sections from the diabatic potential, which is directly connected to lattice QCD calc…

Two-loop divergences of massive scattering amplitudes in non-abelian gauge theories

2009

The infrared divergences of QCD scattering amplitudes can be derived from an anomalous dimension \Gamma, which is a matrix in color space and depends on the momenta and masses of the external partons. It has recently been shown that in cases where there are at least two massive partons involved in the scattering process, starting at two-loop order \Gamma receives contributions involving color and momentum correlations between three (and more) partons. The three-parton correlations can be described by two universal functions F_1 and f_2. In this paper these functions are calculated at two-loop order in closed analytic form and their properties are studied in detail. Both functions are found …

Elastic I=3/2 p -wave nucleon-pion scattering amplitude and the Δ(1232) resonance from Nf=2+1 lattice QCD

2018

We present the first direct determination of meson-baryon resonance parameters from a scattering amplitude calculated using lattice QCD. In particular, we calculate the elastic $I=3/2$, $p$-wave nucleon-pion amplitude on a single ensemble of ${N}_{\mathrm{f}}=2+1$ Wilson-clover fermions with ${m}_{\ensuremath{\pi}}=280\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$ and ${m}_{K}=460\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$. At these quark masses, the $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}(1232)$ resonance pole is found close to the $N\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\pi}$ threshold and a Breit-Wigner fit to the amplitude gives ${g}_{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}N\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\mathrm{BW}}=19.0(4.7)$ in agreement with phenomenologica…

Lattice QCD calculation of hadronic light-by-light scattering

2015

We perform a lattice QCD calculation of the hadronic light-by-light scattering amplitude in a broad kinematical range. At forward kinematics, the results are compared to a phenomenological analysis based on dispersive sum rules for light-by-light scattering. The size of the pion pole contribution is investigated for momenta of typical hadronic size. The presented numerical methods can be used to compute the hadronic light-by-light contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. Our calculations are carried out in two-flavor QCD with the pion mass in the range of 270 to 450MeV, and contain so far only the diagrams with fully connected quark lines.

Direct calculation of hadronic light-by-light scattering

2015

We report calculations of hadronic light-by-light scattering amplitudes via lattice QCD evaluation of Euclidean four-point functions of vector currents. These initial results include only the fully quark-connected contribution. Particular attention is given to the case of forward scattering, which can be related via dispersion relations to the $\gamma^* \gamma^* \to$ hadrons cross section, and thus allows lattice data to be compared with phenomenology. We also present a strategy for computing the hadronic light-by-light contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment.

The $I=1$ pion-pion scattering amplitude and timelike pion form factor from $N_{\rm f} = 2+1$ lattice QCD

2019

The elastic $I=1$ $p$-wave $\pi\pi$ scattering amplitude is calculated together with the isovector timelike pion form factor using lattice QCD with $N_{\rm f}=2+1$ dynamical quark flavors. Wilson clover ensembles generated by the Coordinated Lattice Simulations (CLS) initiative are employed at four lattice spacings down to $a = 0.05\,\mathrm{fm}$, several pion masses down to $m_{\pi} = 200\,\mathrm{MeV}$, and spatial volumes of extent $L = 3.1-5.5\,\mathrm{fm}$. The set of measurements on these ensembles, which is publicly available, enables an investigation of systematic errors due to the finite lattice spacing and spatial volume. The $\pi\pi$ scattering amplitude is fit on each ensemble b…
